47. Free Passes

Some of Toronto’s best multicultural events are in museums. I’ve hesitated mentioning them because the entry fees are usually very high. For example, the Royal Ontario Museum charges $24 for an adult and $16 for a child 4 to 14 years of age. That could add up a lot for a family of four.

The ROM has some discounts, like half-price on Fridays from 4:30pm to 8:30pm. You can enter for free on Wednesdays from 3:40pm to 5:30pm. Full-time post-secondary students can get in free on Tuesdays.

The Institute for Canadian Citizenship provides every new Canadian citizen with one-year passes to 100 museums, galleries, etc. across Canada.

If you don’t fit any of these categories for free tickets, consider the Sun Life Financial Museum and Arts Pass. They are distributed on different days at several Toronto libraries for families of two adults and up to four children. You must have a valid adult Library Card which is free “ for anyone who lives, works, goes to school, or owns land in the city of Toronto.”

Please consult http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/museum-arts-passes/conditions.jsp for locations, times, and conditions. Tickets could also be for the Bata Shoe Museum, the Toronto Zoo, the Ontario Science Centre, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and many others.

Our thanks to Diane Slawych for telling us about the MAP program at the library.
