In this era of electronic games, do kids want to learn about kites? Real ones? The ones that fly? We saw four kites dancing and diving in formation recently in Huntington Beach, California. It was pretty impressive.

On Saturday, March 6 and Sunday March 7, 12noon-5pm, you’ll get a chance to see some traditional Japanese kites. Do the Japanese have fighting kites? Did you see the movie The Kite Runner? Will there be electronic kites? I hope there’ll be something new for us to see there too.

The Japanese Haru Matsuri (Spring) Festival in Toronto will also demonstrate flower arranging, origami (paper folding), dancing, and music. There’ll be food. Family $12 (2 adults and 2 children). Adults $5. Seniors $2. It’s at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, 6 Garamond Court, (Don Mills and Eglinton, northeast of the Ontario Science Centre). Free on-site or nearby parking. Tel. 416-441-2345. Contact: jccc@jccc.on.ca. Web: www.jccc.on.ca . Thanks to Anne Winter for telling us about this event.
