I hope you won’t miss Easter Around the World. It’s on Sunday,  April 17 from 12:00-17:00 and it’s in the City Hall Rotunda, 100 Queen St. W. This event has been organized annually for 45 years by the Community Folk Art Council of Toronto (CFAC) and its member groups. These are the people who brought you the colourful Christmas Around the World (See Blog 25 below). This time the cultures will be from Holland, Hungary, Serbia, Portugal (Madeira), Poland, Russia, Philippines, Ukraine, Macedonia, Slovak Republic, Portugal, Romania, Colombia, Croatia, and Chile. Special Easter foods and decorated eggs will be on display and available for sale. Admission is free. For more information, tel. 416-368-8743. Web: www.cfactoronto.com

I love events like this because it gives you an opportunity to meet people from these cultures and to ask them about their customs. The Portuguese can tell you their favourite Portuguese bake shop. The Dutch should know the best restaurants for Dutch food in Toronto.  You can also ask serious questions. Have these Easter customs died out in their home countries? Are their young people interested in religion there and in Canada? Are their churches turning into condos too?

This event is great for photographers. Exhibitors will be dressed in their unique and colourful costumes. At the end, you might get some free exotic food as exhibitors pack up.
