160. Big on Bloor Festival Today

David Nield writes: My local street festival is today, July 23, 1 to 9pm. Here’s the link http://www.bigonbloor.com/festival/performers.php.
It’s got an awesome line up with multicultural performers from all over the place including Brazilian dancers, Azorean rock, Portuguese folk, and a singing politician!

Ruth responds: Many thanks, David, for telling us about the wide range of cultures in your neighbourhood (Bloor between Lansdowne and Dufferin).  I wish I could be there too.  I hope you and anyone else who goes there will send us a report and pictures. I’m swamped with events. My cup runneth over! Please share your experiences.  Click on “Leave a Comment” below.

  1. Well, we only got a random sliceof the festival as we walked the baby through the heat. It was pretty packed, with tons of colourful stands of art and craft plus many worthy causes local (Gladstone Library) and personal/social (Toronto Vegetarian Society). We went to see our MP, Andrew Cash, strumming his stuff – his son played accordian; then caught some excellent soul/hip hop singer at the Pauline stage. Lunch was delicious perogi from a Polish restaurant stall from Roncesvalles (a few more food stalls perhaps?), washed down by a cool pint at our cool local The Three Speed. My wife had an amazing Shiatsu massage whilst I took the baby home. I wanted to see Azores in the evening as it had a guy I know on guitar, but it never happened. Big on Bloor is a great chance for the community to get together and celebrate – it has risen from the ashes and is now truly establishing itself. Well done all those who put it together and participated in it!
