From now until the end of April, multicultural Toronto will be celebrating Orthodox Easter, and the Sikh’s Khalsa Day Parade. Passover continues until April 14. Jamaica’s 50th Anniversary of Independence won’t be until August, but already, there’s an event marking it. The Nepalese, Lao, Sri Lankan, Thai and Burmese will be among those celebrating their New Year.

If you’re interested in any of these events, search by country name on this Blog. We should be able to tell you what happened at these celebrations last year if we were there.

Some dates and places where you can help your neighbours mark these events this year are posted on our www.torontomulticulturalcalendar.com . Once there, click on “categories” to find events by countries. If you click on “upcoming,” you’ll find events by date.

But we haven’t been able find all countries or all festivals in Toronto. Please tell us if you know about other such events, where and when. We’d love to share your adventures too. Some of these celebrations are in buildings you might not have seen before. The Tamil New Year will have a chariot rolling outside their Middlefield Road temple in Scarborough. The Lao have a beautiful temple on Airport Road near Mono.

Here are opportunities to see these and learn, if you ask, about their customs. In many cases, there’s free food too. Your neighbours are throwing a party and you are all welcome.  Just telephone to confirm that there’s been no changes in plans.
