Ruth writes: This is one of Toronto’s many small festivals with friendly people and unique summer customs, one of my favourites. Tatarstan is part of Russia but its people come here from many other countries. If you arrive early, you can help them prepare the food.

We have just received more information about this event:
10:00 – 12:00 – Registration, setting up tables, national dishes, hot tea from samovar
For children: painting, crafts & arts, introduction to Tatar culture, national games
12:00 – 13:00 – Opening ceremony, greetings, concert and children’s show
13:00 – 14:00 – Lunch with hot pilaf, national dishes, tea from samovar
14:00 – 16:30 – National tatar games, dances, contests
16:30 – 17:00 – Lottery, and closing ceremony
NOTE: There will be 4 stations set up for children: “Kalfak”, “Shurale”, “I speak Tatar”, Apipa”. Here your children will craft Tatar head wear for themselves and/or their parents, draw a picture of Shurale, learn basic Tatar and dances.
Please bring your family and friends (adult & children). It will be a fun for everybody.
Admission fee: $5.00 for a lottery, $1.00 for each coupon which can be used for food, games, crafts, and others (minimum 10 coupons per person). Free coupons will be given to those who bring national dishes for bake-sale, souvenirs, and help organizing the event.
