744. Japanese Poems in Multicultural Toronto – April, 2017

“When we die, our bodies inevitably turn to dust…When that happens, where will our hearts go? Our hearts will live on with our friends. If we pass our heart on to our friends, it will always live on within them.”

“Poems She Marked” is a new musical project based on selected poems from the book “One Hundred Poems from the Japanese,” with translations by Kenneth Rexroth. It was written in memory of a dear friend who passed away and left behind this earmarked book six years ago. The piece incorporates a fusion of sound from two cultural perspectives, blending traditional Japanese instruments such as koto, shakuhachi, and shamisen with western classical notation and vocal stylings…”
