Ash Wednesday 2014

March 5, 2014 – March 6, 2014 all-day

This Christian holy day is the first day of Lent, the beginning of 46 days of fasting and prayers before Easter. For those attending church services today, ashes in the form of a cross are placed on the forehead of believers. They are a reminder and celebration of human mortality, and a sign of mourning and repentance to God. The ashes used are typically gathered from the burning of the palms from the previous year’s Palm Sunday.
