This Spring Festival is celebrated by Hindus traditionally with a bon-fire the night before and the gleeful throwing of coloured water and powder on everyone, friends and strangers alike the day after. Individual temples select their own dates for this event. It commemorates the overthrow of the King of the Demons, and the victory of good over evil. It celebrates the appearance in India of an incarnation of Lord Krishna in 1486.
See our 2012 Blog on this event in Toronto in Hindu temples. Don’t expect to throw colours in temples. BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, is celebrating March 26. See http://toronto.baps.org/news_events.php .
