Commemorates the sacrifice of those who served Canada in its armed forces. Celebrated in schools as a day of peace. It is marked by ceremonies at Old City Hall at Bay and Queen Streets, and at civic centres across Toronto. These civic centres are in East York, Etobicoke, North York, Scarborough and York regions. Services also at Fort York.
During the weeks leading up to November 11, the Canadian Legion, the veterans’ organization, sells “poppies” on the street to help the families of veterans.
Most of the civic centre ceremonies start between 10:15 and 10:45am. Scarborough’s starts at 2pm. End times need to be confirmed. For other services, see: http://bit.ly/sNOMcr .
