This most important of our many film festivals in Toronto features over 300 films from 60+ countries; for example, from Germany, seven films and 24 co-productions, including the much anticipated world premiere of Christian Petzold’s “Phoenix”. (For list, see: http://www.goethe.de/ins/ca/tor/ver/enindex.htm)
Another example is: the North American premiere of the Mexican documentary film, “The years of Fierro” by Mexican filmmaker Santiago Esteinou, part of TIFF Docs. This tells the story of Cesar, the oldest Mexican prisoner on death row in the United States. Then there’s “Aire Libre” which is set in Argentina. http://www.tiff.net/festivals/thefestival/filmlisting.
