Christopher Jones forwarded a press release on this weekend’s Festival Bana Y’ Afrique 2011. I spent a few minutes at this festival last year and only heard the DJ. I hope to get back there for a live performance this time. See Schedule below.

Christopher’s website covers many of the same events we do, but he also has those you have to pay to enjoy. It’s http://www.livewithculture.ca/. Thanks for the tip, Christopher.

As for the Bana Y’ Afrique, it’s on Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24, 3pm–10pm. It’s at Pecaut Square (formerly Metro Hall Square) at John and King Street West. (From the St. Andrew Subway stop, follow the signs to Roy Thomson Hall and Metro Hall. It’s air-conditioned most of the way!)

Festival Bana y’Afrique is a free outdoor celebration of African music and culture for the whole family. This year, it features a main concert stage with 16 performances by local and international award-winning African musical groups and traditional dancers. It will also have African food in its marketplace, and activities for youth and children.

Festival Bana y’Afrique is organized by Africa New Music – Afrique Nouvelle Musique, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of African music and culture in Toronto.
