From our e-mail box: “Azores Fringe Festival wants to give the opportunity for a North American solo artist (or group, but only travel costs for one artist will be covered) to visit and participate in the 2014 festival in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Artists may complete this document to apply for a lottery grant to receive transportation (from a major Canadian city or USA: Boston or Oakland), accommodations in Pico island (one week) where the core of the Festival happens in the Azores Archipelago, and participation in “the most remote fringe festival”, according to Holly Payton (World Fringe Network). Artists from all disciplines may apply as the festival is eclectic from performances (dance, music, theatre) to exhibits (painting, sculpture, illustrations…) to literary events, book launches, workshops and talks… anything under the heading of artistic culture.
“The contrast of black volcanic rock with green landscape, the clarity of the Atlantic Ocean, the transparent blue lagoons, the exotic vegetation, the hydrangeas bathing the roadside… pure nature, 9 paradise islands, waiting for you to colour with your artistic expression. www.azoresfringe.
