8 May
I’m not a Buddhist but I went to the Zen Buddhist Big Birthday Celebration three years ago. It was a lot of fun and the food and welcome were great. We paid by voluntary donation but no one asked for money. This year it is on May 14 at 86 Vaughan Road. Everyone is welcome.
The birthday of the founder is a good time to visit a Buddhist temple, be it Japanese, Chinese, Cambodian, Korean, Thai, Tibetan, or whatever. We have a lot of different temples in Toronto. They are especially well decorated then and you might need some quality time to sit and meditate about life.
But a birthday celebration is not about being quiet. For my unexpected experience at the Zen temple, see my blog: http://bit.ly/1VONl1B. The cover image is of Jay Vazquez performing at that event.
