Mexico’s music isn’t just Mariachi bands. This Saturday, at 7:30pm, the Monarca Ensemble (Paulina Derbez, Naomi Barrón, and María Rosales) will launch the “Contemporary Mexico” Cultural Platform with a concert at the Windermere United Church, 356 Windermere Avenue (near Jane and Bloor). They will perform pieces for piano and violin from Mexico’s colonial era (Virreinato), as well as pieces by the modern Mexican composers Manuel M. Ponce (1882-1948) and Silvestre Revueltas (1899-1940). To conclude the concert, they will be performing Ponce’s famous Romantic trio. Expect Mexican poetry too. A reception with wine and refreshments will be held after the concert. Tickets: $10 to $20. https://www.facebook.com/events/1207069792652908/.
